Very difficult to get a medical appointment outside of sheduled times twice a year. Need to get their permission first before exercising judgment like obvious signs of MI, STOKE, OR LABORED BREATHING should be able to call EMS first then notify the medical team. Difficult to see specialist regularly, who are in their system - like if cardiologist desires to follow his patient 3-4 times a year the mid level has a protocol to say that it is not needed but once or twice a year and if SJP does not schedule the specialist appointment the insurance thru SJP's Pace Medicaid will not pay specialist. Their midlevel providers rarely see the full scope of the patient's needs because they lack training to treat individually and consider the changes that occur in geriatric patients...and are also lacking a supervising physician available at all times on the premises.
It is not an easy job at all to care for someone who has advanced dementia, especially if they have mobility and bladder control issues. Everyone from the shuttle bus driver, the activities people and those who help feed and bath them are all unsung heroes.
If you are in a situation where you may be considering either day car or a nursing home I highly recommend visiting St Josephs, touring the facility and seeing for yourself. They have good healthy food, a onsite healthcare facility, scheduled activities, games, day trips, help with bathing (if necessary) help with special dietary needs, social interaction with others all by trained, patient professionals.
My mom was the very first participant. They're compassionate and caring!
Good looking after old folks.
The rest of staff is very good with check in, check out, day room care, bus services, etc. Another weakness is Social work services and it's coordination with medical to follow a specialist ' s recommendations to improve care like regular physical therapy for a parkinson patient as recommended by one's Neurologist. I noted all these frustration and my mom has been at SJP for about 9 months.
I can not say enough good things about St Joseph of the Pines. My mother stays there during the day three days a week and the service they offer has been a lifesaver. Every single employee I have seen is so helpful and accommodating to the people they care for.
I have been with the company for 3+ years. It is a wonderful program that assists the elderly to stay in their homes instead of going into a nursing home. I wish it was around back when my grandmother was living!
Thanks to St Josephs my mother is able to still stay at home, without them we would be faced with the choice of putting her in a full time home and that would make the final chapter of her life unbearable for her.
Again the employees and management of this company have been nothing but professional and truly caring human beings. I can not recommend them highly enough.
To everyone who works there from the bottom of our family's heart: Thank you!
In my case both my parents are in their mid 80's, my father was at his wits end trying to care for someone in a wheelchair with advanced dementia who can be aggressive at times. Mom likes the people at St Josephs, the food is good and they are well trained to deal with the special challenges of aging.
